spaces where the weary, wounded, and wandering could find shelter, warmth, and compassionate care. Monastic communities practiced radical hospitality because they believed every person bears the image of the divine and carries a story worth honoring. They welcomed strangers, tended the sick, and created quiet spaces where people could encounter the sacred in stillness, prayer, and ordinary rhythms of life.

Throughout history, abbeys were places of sacred refuge—

We exist as a refuge for those seeking comfort, clarity, and connection in seasons of grief, transition, or spiritual uncertainty. We believe the divine meets people gently—through presence, through story, through honest questions, and through the quiet work of healing.

Our role is to walk with you, to hold space for your grief and hope, and to honor the sacred movements that are already at work in your life.

Everyone at The Abbey has walked through seasons of loss, uncertainty, and deep transition. We know what it feels like to face moments that shake your identity, your faith, or your sense of direction. Our empathy comes from experience, not distance. We don’t come with assumptions or agendas—we come with presence, understanding, and the kind of compassion that grows only through having been there ourselves.

At The Abbey, our mission is to offer a refuge where individuals can explore meaning, grief, identity, and hope in a space that respects the sacredness of their story and faith perspective.

The Abbey Spiritual Care & Counseling carries this heritage into the modern world.

Alaskan Roots, Nationwide Reach

Christianne first recognized the need for this work while serving as an end-of-life clinical chaplain on the Kenai Peninsula. Without a medical hospice, many Alaskans had little to no access to meaningful spiritual and emotional support during illness, grief, or major life transitions.

That gap revealed something deeper: people everywhere long for presence, grounding, and compassionate care in their own spaces.

What began in Alaska became the seed of something larger. Christianne founded The Abbey Spiritual Care & Counseling and invited trusted, clinically trained colleagues from across the country to join her.

Today, The Abbey is a nationwide, open collective of spiritual care providers—one of the first of its kind—created to ensure that anyone, anywhere can receive steady, compassionate spiritual support, whether in-home or virtually.

Together, our team accompanies individuals and families across the nation, meeting people where life is actually unfolding and offering gentle, clinically informed care when it’s needed most.
