Why The Abbey?

We offer a kind of support that is rare: clinical-level spiritual care delivered in your home, in your community, or virtually across the nation.

In-Home Spiritual Care: Presence That Meets You Where You Are

Most helping professions ask you to enter an office, sit under fluorescent lights, and fit yourself into someone else’s space. At The Abbey, we believe care becomes more human—and more healing—when it comes to you.

We offer spiritual care in the quiet familiarity of your own home, where you can be unguarded, comfortable, and fully yourself. There is no expectation to be “ready,” composed, or put together. You don’t have to travel, prepare, or perform.

Whether you are:

  • living with illness

  • grieving a recent loss

  • caring for someone who is declining

  • overwhelmed, exhausted, or spiritually disoriented

  • end-of-Life

  • unable to leave home due to pain, fatigue, or circumstance

we bring a calm, attentive presence to your living room, your bedside, your hospital room, or your nursing facility.

This is the heart of our difference—care offered in the midst of your everyday life, not from a distance.

In-home care is available wherever our practitioners reside.

Virtual Spiritual Care: Deep Presence Across Any Distance

Not every season of life allows for in-person companionship, and not every person lives near a trained spiritual care provider.

Virtual spiritual care allows us to meet you where you are—across towns, states, or even countries—without losing the depth, stillness, or attentiveness that defines our work.

Our virtual sessions are quiet, intentional, and grounded in the same contemplative presence as our in-home visits. We approach each conversation with the same care: listening deeply, reflecting gently, and helping you explore what is surfacing in your inner world.

Virtual spiritual care is especially helpful for those who are:

  • grieving or navigating loss from afar

  • homebound, caregiving, or unable to travel

  • needing support without the formality of an office or clinical setting

Wherever you are in the world, you can step into a space of calm, reflection, and genuine spiritual companionship.

We are able to offer virtual care across state lines and even internationally, without the barriers that restrict mental health counseling or medical professions.

A Nationwide Collective of Trained Spiritual Care Providers

While our roots are in Alaska, The Abbey Spiritual Care & Counseling is part of a growing nationwide collective of spiritually and clinically trained care providers—one of the first group practices of its kind in the country. Our team represents chaplains and spiritual caregivers from across the United States who share a common calling: to offer thoughtful, depth-oriented support rooted in sacred presence, wisdom, and compassionate attention to the inner life.

Together, we’re building a new model of accessible spiritual care—one that brings skilled, soulful support into homes, communities, and virtual spaces across the country.

Our practitioners come from diverse theological and spiritual backgrounds, allowing us to accompany people of any faith, no faith, or unsure faith with gentleness and respect.

Many have served in:

  • hospitals

  • palliative care teams

  • hospice settings

  • crisis and trauma environments

Each member of our team has advanced training in clinical spiritual care, trauma- and grief-informed practice, psychodynamic and neuropsychoanalytic listening, and end-of-life support.
